ALAM Akademi Laut Malaysia ( Malaysia Maritime Academy )

OUR STORY

Akademi Laut Malaysia or better known as ALAM is a well developed 74 acres campus at the pristine Kuala Linggi, Melaka overlooking the busy Straits of Melaka.
ALAM is committed towards being a recognized leader in regional maritime training excellence. Our specialized education system is one of the most fulfilling in the region. A balance of professional regimentation with a challenging and fun college environment, our system unites classroom instruction, practical training and professional development skills.
ALAM is rapidly becoming a reputable MET institution globally and had guided thousands of young aspirants towards a rewarding and assured maritime future and will continue to propel forward for maritime excellence.

HISTORY OF ALAM

The story of the Academy began in 1977. The need to train and prepare Malaysians for the exciting maritime industry was addressed with the establishment of a non-profit making body called MATES (Malaysian Training and Education for Seamen) Foundation. Consisting of the Malaysian International Shipping Corporation Berhad (MISC) (now known as MISC Berhad), International Shipping Carriers, Hong Kong and the Malaysian Ministry of Transport as their main promoters, the foundation soon pioneered the Maritime Training Centre (MTC) in 1977.
On 15 August 1981, MTC was subsequently upgraded to academy status with the award of a government charter by Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad, the fourth Prime Minister of Malaysia and thus named Akademi Laut Malaysia.
On 1 January 1997, ALAM was privatised to Malaysian Maritime Academy Sdn. Bhd. (MMA), a consortium comprising Malaysia International Shipping Corporation (now MISC Berhad), Petroliam Nasional Berhad (PETRONAS), Penang Shipbuilding and Construction Sdn. Bhd. and Klang Port Management Sdn. Bhd.
ALAM is now a subsidiary of MISC Berhad.

The ALAM Nautical Faculty brings together
subject matter experts representing the best
brains and experience in the industry.
All respected leaders in their respective
 specialisations, our faculty members
are armed with Certificates of Competencies
(Master’s Foreign Going), Bachelor Degrees,
Masters and PhD degrees, and backed by years
of serving onboard every conceivable type of vessel afloat.
What unites the diverse experiences and
qualifications of our faculty members is their
shared passion to nurture budding seafarers for careers at sea.
Staying in touch with the latest discoveries in maritime,
our Nautical Faculty continues to develop
 industry-relevant courses and skills training
to meet the highest standards of the HSE
 (Health, Safety and Environment) regulations,
IMO standards and industry requirements.
‘Competence beyond compliance’ is our motto.
ALAM’s nautical courses start with
 a Diploma in Nautical Studies
(to kickstart life as a sea navigator)

Certificate of Competency, and culminates
with an opportunity of Post Graduate programmes.

each student the best of both worlds –
the rigour of academic knowledge blended
with the discipline of hands-on practical training.
Other than training students to become future
Chief Engineers of tomorrow, the Faculty

That way, cadets get more than an education…
In fact, they gain valuable lessons in seafaring life.
The faculty offers courses for Pre-Sea
and Post-Sea courses both for foreign
 going and near coastal cadets.
Short courses specific to certain training
or technical skills development are also
offered to prepare our cadets to take
on leadership roles onboard.

The man who sold the world - Nirvana

We passed upon the stair
We spoke of was and when
Although I wasn't there
He said I was his friend
Which came as a surprise
I spoke into his eyes
I thought you died alone
A long long time ago

Oh no, not me
We never lost control
You're face to face
With the man who sold the world

I laughed and shook his hand
And made my way back home
I searched for form and land [Alt: I searched for foreign land]
For years and years I roamed
I gazed a gazeless stare
At all the millions here [Alt 1: We walked a million years]
[Alt 2: With multimillionaires]
[Alt 3: We walked a million hills]
I must have died alone [Alt: I must have died along]
A long, long time ago

Who knows?
Not me
I never lost control
You're face to face
With the man who sold the world

Who knows?
Not me
We never lost control
You're face to face
With the man who sold the world
